Play Without Words Then Words

There is darkness then there is sudden bright light and a baby that is lying alone on the stage begins to cry and cry and cry. Everyone in the audience is upset by the agonizing howls of the lonely baby that fill the entire space. This is what happens for a little while. Before long a woman in a dress with an apron on hurries onto the opposite side of the stage as the crying baby. Never nearing the crying baby the woman walks about on one side of the stage. The woman is going about her daily routine as if the crying baby does not exist to her. The woman likes to cook breakfast. The woman likes to sit down and eat and read a lady’s magazine. The woman likes to change a light bulb. The woman likes to go to the bathroom. The woman likes to drive to the pharmacy to pick up some medicine. The woman likes to take her medicine. The woman likes to sweep. The woman likes to look out the window. The woman likes to cut her hair. The woman likes to tend to some flowers. The woman likes to do the dishes. The woman likes to do the laundry. The woman likes to masturbate. The woman likes to make a sandwich and eat it. The woman likes to vacuum. The woman likes to read a book. The woman likes to retrieve something from a cupboard. The woman likes to apply lipstick. The woman likes to log on to the Internet. The woman likes to fix a cup of coffee and drink it. The woman likes to iron. The woman likes to dance with herself. The woman likes to stand on her head. The woman likes to check under the sink. The woman likes to sneeze. The woman likes to take a nap. The woman likes to arrange flowers in a vase. The woman likes to retrieve something from the basement. The woman likes to brush her teeth. The woman likes to brush her teeth again. The woman likes to do a crossword puzzle. The woman likes to turn the lights on and off. The woman likes to find a gun in the back of the bedroom closet. The woman likes to kiss herself. The woman likes to smoke a cigar. The woman likes to fold clothes. The woman likes to get the mail. The woman likes to wave. The woman likes to crack her knuckles. The woman likes to look at her largest knife. The woman turns and quickly walks to the baby bends over and stabs the baby in the chest and that stops the baby from crying. The woman stands and looks at the silent baby. “All is well,” she says.
